Entrepreneur Background

Ranjeet Deshmukh has worked as a Chief Technical Officer and Technical Architect for various startups and large organisations in India and the United States. Before RoadBounce, he started two other businesses. The first was purchased by the leading shipping software vendor in the United States. A software engineer for 25 years, he was looking for a new idea in 2019 when a Maharashtra road official aired out a long-standing complaint: "We have the second-largest road network in the world but most of it is old, battered, and invisible to us.

The Product / Service

RoadBounce is a patented, smartphone-based road health digitisation platform — using the accelerometer and GPS sensors already present in any smartphone to measure road roughness against International Roughness Index (IRI) standards, detect potholes and surface disruptions in real time, create continuously updating geo-tagged road condition maps, and deliver actionable data to government bodies, municipal corporations, road contractors, and national highway authorities to enable data-driven, proactive maintenance rather than reactive repair. RoadBounce monitors how phones vibrate while resting inside a moving vehicle, using GPS technology to record the precise locations where major vibrations — caused by potholes and damaged roads — occur. Then, RoadBounce analyzes data from multiple users, pinpointing the most dangerous areas and sharing that information with its customers.

The Ask

Amount Asked: ₹80 lakhs Equity Offered: 10% Implied Pre-Money Valuation: ₹8 crore

Pitch Presentation

The pitch opened with India's road safety crisis in hard numbers: the world's second-largest road network, but also one of its deadliest, with over 150,000 road deaths annually — many attributable to poor road surface quality. The pothole is not a minor inconvenience in India; it is a measurable contributor to fatalities, vehicle damage costs running into thousands of crores annually, and the economic inefficiency of reactive maintenance systems that fix roads after they break rather than before. Road bounce is a technology that can be installed on a phone as an application. It measures the vibration of your car and based on that, data is generated about the road quality. Till now, they have collected 5,000 km of road data. It gives an alert to the vehicles that there are potholes on the road which will decrease the chance of an accident. It had recently signed a ₹2.5 crore deal. It earns its revenue through road contractors and the government.

Sharks' Reactions & Criticism

Ashneer Grover exited immediately, without engaging substantively with the technology. Ashneer said that he was out from the beginning of the pitch. Aman Gupta exited on a notably consumer-perspective basis. Aman didn't find the potholes a problem and moved out. Namita Thapar exited citing product and idea misalignment. Namita said that she was not okay with the product and its idea and turned herself down. Anupam Mittal engaged most deeply with the strategic dimensions before exiting. Anupam asked if he wanted to go with the same government contracts or wished to do something extraordinary with it. Peyush Bansal was the sole Shark to engage with RoadBounce as the technology business it actually was. Peyush, a man from a technical background, was the only one left and showed respect towards Ranjeet because of the technology.

Negotiation & Offers

Peyush gave an offer of ₹50 lakhs for 20% of the company. Ranjit sai that they both are technology lovers so "Let's do this!" and accepted the offer. Peyush countered with an offer of ₹80 lakhs in exchange for 20% equity in the company. And finally, the pitcher agreed with ₹80 lakhs for 20% equity.

Final Verdict

On-Screen Deal: YES — ₹80 lakhs for 20% equity from Peyush Bansal alone
